Snow Plowing

Cuba Township Highway Department provides the snowplowing services and ice control for Village maintained roads. If you have any snow related service concerns, the Township Highway Supervisor can be reached via email by accessing their site. The general number of the Department is (847) 381-7793.

2007 Road Program

The 2007 Road Program will include Merri-Oaks Road, Hickory Lane, Hills & Dales Road, Rolling Hills Drive, Longmeadow Drive, and Longmeadow Court.  Bids will be due in May, with work expected to begin in June and be completed by August.  It is not expected that any of these roads will be closed during construction, but delays should be expected in these areas. Please observe traffic signage in all construction zones.

The Cook County Highway Department has informed us that they will be resurfacing Bateman Road this summer, from Penny Road to Lake Cook Road.  This project is currently in the bidding phase, and more information will be provided as it is available.

2006 Program Recap

The 2006 Road Program included extensive repairs to the Cuba Road bridge deck (west of Buckley, where Flint Creek crosses Cuba Road).  While only minor distresses were visible at the asphalt surface, the pictures below demonstrate the extent of damage to the concrete slabs that made up the underlying bridge deck.  The concrete slabs were able to be sufficiently reinforced to maintain the structural integrity of the bridge without resorting to a more costly reconstruction project. The work after completion is shown in the photograph below.

Seasonal Posting Explained

On an annual basis, the Village lowers the load limit on all Village-maintained roadways to 10 tons (gross weight).  This weight restriction goes into effect in the early spring when rising temperatures results in a loss of frost penetration and thus high moisture contents in the base of local roadways.  This condition leaves Village roads susceptible to damage by vehicles of this weight class.

This year the seasonal load limits went into effect on March 19, 2007.  The length of the closure will be determined by the rate at which the moisture created by the thaw dissipates and the road subgrades become adequately supported.  Typically this occurs in early May, but can vary depending on the amount of precipitation and the predominant weather patterns that occur in the month of April.

2007 Road Program Recap

In 2007, Merri-Oaks Road, Hickory Lane, Hills 'N Dales Road, Rolling Hills Drive, Longmeadow Drive and Longmeadow Court were repaired.

The Village Engineers are currently reviewing the work to determine if it adequately weathered the winter.
