Children’s Privacy

The Village of Barrington Hills intends to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA) that helps to protect the safety and privacy of children online. COPPA and its accompanying FTC regulation constitutes United States Federal law that protects the privacy of children using the Internet. Personal information from children under 13 is not knowingly collected, nor are children under 13 knowingly contacted by the Village. No information of any kind is solicited by the Village from children under 13. It is possible that the Village may receive emails pertaining to children under 13. If the Village is notified of this, as soon as the information is verified, parental consent will be immediately obtained or the email will be deleted from the email box servicing www.barringtonhills-il.gov.

The Freedom of Information Act (“Act”) provides that information received by the Village on the website becomes public record, subject to disclosure under the Act. Users who communicate through this website are advised that all communications are public and cannot be held in confidence. The Village captures some user and browser information on the website and may analyze the server logs to generate traffic reports that may list user origination addresses.
