Lighting Impact Study

[UPDATE] The Zoning Board of Appeals at its special meeting of August 18th concluded consideration of its revision of the draft standards for exterior lighting and its recommendation will be forward to the Board of Trustees.

The ZBA at its meetings in June and July began with the assistance of the Village Attorney editing the draft standards for exterior lighting.

The ZBA at its meeting of May 17th reviewed the draft ordinance, since its review of the LIS with questions to the Village Enginner and Plan Commission until it continued the meeting to June 19th.

Lighting Impact Study - The Village Engineer presented to the Zoning Board of Appeals at its Special Meeting of April 22, 2010 an analysis of seven properties for which the owners volunteered their residences and landscapes to be evaluated in accordance with the proposed regulations of artificial lighting. The analysis as presented may be found below.

Regular Road Weight Limit Restored April 26, 2010

Upon the advice of the Village Engineer, the regular road limit signs are being restored on Village maintained roads. Vehicles making local delivery are permitted up to 18 tons gross weight are permitted on the Roads. Heavier vehicles required a over weight permit. Details may be found in Section 9-2-6-2 of the Village Code. Information is also provided about overweight vehicles when applying for a building permit; see buiding code details.

 

Alerts to You Program - ComEd

ComEd continues in 2010 their Free Outage Alert Pilot Program available to customers that sign up and they will receive notice of service disruption.  This program allows for customers to be notified if there is an outage at their home even if they aren't home by receiving a text messages that alerts one of an estimated restoration times and other important outage information.

And to provide customers with more information, for the first time ComEd now has an outage map on its Web site. This easy-to-use map offers color-coded, regional information about outages, including a list of towns and the number of customers in that region without power.  By enrolling as an online user, customers can also use the Web site to report power outages, manage their ComEd accounts, and view and pay their bills.

In addition to the alerts and outage map, ComEd outage-related Web pages are mobile-enabled for customers to view outage information clearly on mobile devices.There is no additional charge for this service.  Messaging and data rates may apply based on one's personal carrier plan. The service works for all major carriers.

ComEd Information

1-800-334-7661 Dial (1-800 EDISON 1) for all calls except Police or Fire emergencies in which case dial 9-1-1. When calling ComEd you will be speaking to a Customer Service Representative at one of their Call Centers. The Service Representative will enter your request or problem into an automated dispatch system which will create a Customer Ticket. This ticket is printed to a remote receiving department where a response is created. Please note the system is driven by addresses not location. The street address allows the dispatch system attach a variety of information to the Customer Ticket that will be needed by the responding department of ComEd. If a street address cannot be given, inform the Service Representative of the best possible location of the problem in the Village.

Equestrian Slide ShowEquestrian Highlights

The Equestrian Commission meets the first Monday of each month. The Village provides trails and services for the equestrian community. The Commission works to provide optimal conditions for equestrian activities and strives to build a strong partnership with Village offices, including training.

Annual landscape maintenance and spring clean-up are apparent around Village Hall. The photo shows a controlled prairie burn of the fire station prairie under cultivation along the west side of the fire station.  Library Book Drop at Village Hall  

Barrington Hills residents may take advantage of a new service at the Barrington Hills Village Hall. A library book drop has been installed inside the village hall for residents to return library materials. The Barrington Area Library will retrieve the library materials on a regular basis, and the materials will be checked in effective the date they were placed in the book drop. For residents with busy schedules, this new service will make returning library materials fast and convenient.

Most types of library materials may be returned in the book drop including books, videotapes, audiotapes, and CDs. Materials deposited in the book drop from other libraries will be returned to these libraries through a regional book delivery system.

Additional books have been installed in the Barrington area including Charles R. Brown Park in Deer Park, Barrington Middle Schools-Station Campus and Prairie Campus, South Barrington Park District, and Marketplace of Barrington shopping center.

The Barrington Area Library, located at 505 N. Northwest Highway in Barrington, is the geographically largest library district in Illinois. The library serves the residents of Barrington, Barrington Hills, Lake Barrington, North Barrington, South Barrington, Deer Park, Tower Lakes, and a section of Hoffman Estates.
