Still some counting to do.
Barrington Hills mail participation rate in the 2010 Census as of
Monday April 29th was 11 percentage points higher than it was in 2000 as the once-in-a-decade count prepares to enter its next phase on May
1.
Barrington Hills' rate of forms mailed back by households that
received them was at 81 percent, while the state and national rate
were 74 and 72 percent respectfully, according to data from the Census
website.
Meanwhile, with Congressional representation and re-disbursement of
tax revenue is on the line, the Village's Complete Count Committee
continues its push to make sure all residents are counted.
The Committee encourages those who have not responded to cooperate
with the Census enumerators when they come to the door. The
information collected is confidential and not available to any other
agency. No personal financial information will be requested, nor will
people be asked to supply their Social Security numbers. The census
taker will ask only the questions that appear on the Census form.
The Census Bureau provides the enumerator with a binder containing all
of the addresses that didn't send back a completed form. He or she
then visits all of those addresses in the Village and records the
answers to the questions on the form. If no one answers at a
particular residence, the census taker will visit a home up to three
times. The census worker will leave a double-sided (English and
Spanish) Notice of Visit in the doorway that includes a phone number
for the resident to schedule an appointment. Return calls will be made
three times from any phone contact to the Bureau.
Your privacy and confidentiality is a priority.
Enumerators have undergone background checks and wear badges
identifying themselves as census workers.
The enumerator who collects your information and the local government
census liaison are sworn for life to protect your data under Federal
Law Title 13. Those who violate the oath face criminal penalties.
Under federal law, the penalty for unlawful disclosure is a fine of up
to $250,000 or imprisonment for up to 5 years, or both.
For more information, call the Census at 1-866-872-6868 or the Village
847-551-3000 (after hours and week ends 847-551-3006).
The Village of Barrington Hills still needs to count on you.
